STT: Body Reading
Body Reading in AP View
- Are the feet laterally or medially rotated?
- Does the middle of the patella line up with the 1st or 2nd toe?
- Is the pelvis level (ASIS to ASIS)?
- Are the hands/arms forward?
- Is the inferior "Pec Line" level (males)? Bottom of Ribs?
- Are the clavicles level and visible?
- Is the AC joint higher than the SC joint
- by 1/2 to 3/4 inch?
- Are the ears level?
- Mid-sagital plane - does the apex of head liine up with the nose, sternum and pubic symphysis?
Body Reading in RL/LL
- Plumbline in Lateral View
- Anterior Lateral Malleolus to mid-point of knee, to 3rd finger on seam of pants, to high point of lliac crest, to AC join, to external auditory meatus
- Also check ASIS to PSIS
- PSIS depressed to ASIS = Posterior Pelvic Tilt
- PSIS Level with ASIS = neutral
- PSIS 1/2 higher than ASIS = neutral
- PSIS > 1/2 " higher than ASIS = Anterior Pelvic Tilt
Body Reading Posterior/Anterior View
- Check calcaneal tendon (Achilles): is it supinated/inversion or pronated/eversion?
- Is the popiteal region even or level?
- Is the Gluteal Fold level?
- Is the PSIS level?
- Is the scapula winged medial or inferior border?
- Is the spine of the scapula visible and level?
- Check for S Curve or C Curve, Do they have functional or Structural scoliosis?
Body Reading Rules
- Feet shoulder width apart
- Start @ Feet
- Global/Soft Focus
- 8-10 Feet away
- Use Professional Language
TX Protocol (pg. 33)
- MFR
- Decongestion
- TrP's & TP's
- MET's
Decongestion Protocol
- Proximal -> Distal (always)
- Lateral -> Medial (usually)
- 2" to 3" Layers, approximate 9 strokes
- Client's Pressure of 3 or 6 (if tolerated)
- No return strokes
- Maintain contact
- Close w/vigorous petrissage
Drain Sites (Prone):
- Post Cervical -> C7 (T-shirt line)
- Upper Traps (U.T.) -> A/C Joint
- Scapula -> Axillary
- Mid-Thoracic/Lumbar -> Abdomen
- Glutes -> Greater Trochanter (GT)
- Hams -> GT
- Gastroc/soleus -> Popiteal
Drain Sites (Supine)
- SCM & Scalenes -> Clavicle
- PEC -> Axillary
- Quads -> GT
- Tibialis Ant -> Popiteal
- Upper Arm -> Axillary
- Forearm -> Subcubital
- Abdomen -> Rectum
