Identification
- purpose the determination of the physical or chemical identity with as near
absolute certainty as existing analytical techniques will permit.


Comparison
- subjects a suspect specimen and a control specimen to the same tests and
examinations for the ultimate purpose of determining whether or not they have a common origin.

Characteristics -
Individual - you can associate to a common source with an extremely high degree of certainty.
Class - can only be associated with a group and never with a single source. Can
often be used to 'clear' a suspect.

Blood used to be class evidence, with DNA is now Individual Characteristics

Reconstruction - methods used to support a likly sequence of events by the
observation and evaluation of physical evidence as well as statements made by
those involved with the incident.

Expert Witness 'can render an opinion' 'experience, skill
