First Responder most critical to the investigation, will make or break that case.
SAVE Kit
Rape, few crimes rely on physical evidence as much as Rape. ALL a physical evidence case (word against word).
Juries have a hard time listening to testimony on rape (false accusations).
Arrested and charged with sexual offence it is ALWAYS on your record, whether you are found as innocent or not.
Indecent exposure is a sexual offence, public nudity.
Rape and Death Penalty -
If they don't report it, you can NEVER catch the bad guy.
Misdemeanor - up to a year in jail. Felony - over a year.
Sexual Assault - almost anything is a sexual assault. Michigan - CS1 - grab someone on the ass, CS2 - grab breast, CS3 - action, CS4 - penetration (school teacher, mentally retarded, police officer).
Vast majority of cases, if victim is a female, she will have taken a shower. All hairs, fiber evidence is gone.
Where it occurred?
Where are her clothes she was wearing? Pants/Panties. Underwear or fighting chance, tissue or washcloth.
Everybody goes into shock; everybody's shock is different.
Force - lots of different kinds of force; mental force. Do not work for the sheriff, chief of police, etc., we work for the victims.
Work the evidence all the way through; no shortcuts.
Will have to explain the SAFE kit to the victim and the collection process and what it's necessary for.
Can we give them your personal phone number or office phone number? Don't list personal phone in the phone book.

Only about 50% of the women who are raped report it. There is no way to validate or determine the amount of men who are raped who report it.
Adult rape - Statute of limitations, 5 years. Each state is different.
Child Rape - NO statute of limitations.
Bruises: Photograph that night; make an appointment to go back and photograph the next day.
Semen luminesces under a UV lamp (Wood's Lamp). Shorter the wavelength more damage to your eyes. So powerful, luminesce like crazy on a white sheet. Black light might not be able to see semen, collect bed sheets, etc. Carpet has dark colors, light colors will luminesce.
Black Light, Wood's Lamp, UV ALS.
Collect and refrigerate. Try not to leave in the refrigerator too long. Always in paper, not plastic. Biological material in paper.
Sexual Assault Victim Evidence Kit (SAVE): Most places Doctor's do it. Most Crime Scene techs won't have to. Pinellas, Health department group does it. They will collect that evidence and provide that evidence to the Crime Scene tech. Chain of Custody.
Work as a team; maintain the chain of custody together.
Read up on Rufinal and GHB. Understand how fast these thing will react with your body; how to test for it.
GHB - when they die from it, puke and crap all over the place. DRT (Dead Right There) GHB and Alcohol.
Sexual Assault Involving Children: Key person, is the Physician or the Doctor. Most don't find out about it until months after it occurs. Weeks or months later. Only one that can really testify is the physician.
Most parents are unaware of Child Molestation.
According to the book, a medical examiner can determine if anal penetration has occured and if the person was accustomed to it.
ME can also determine if a person is a virgin or not.
Homosexual assault and battery same as heterosexual assault. One person will be beat to death. In prison, put out or die.
It's not a crime of sexual persuasion, it's power.
Find often that they will not ejaculate inside the victim, will ejaculate on the victim and then urinate on the person and also defecate on them.
Elder Abuse:
3 basic categories: domestic, Institutional and self-abuse.
2/3's of the abusers are family members. They are the ones taking care of the elder person as they degenerate back to childhood.
Elder's often won't tell you they are being abused. Mother has been on the couch for two years, baby diapers. Maggots in her rectum and vagina... ate the dead meat to prevent gangrene.
Some thing to watch for: elder's have a tendency to drink and fall down. You will find often they are drunk. "Fell down and broke her hip"; this is a fallacy invented by doctor's. Old people don't fall down and break their hip; their hip breaks and they fall down. Especially women, their hip broke and she fell down. Bone snaps from the pressure.
Check the bottom of their feet - when they walk funny. Check the bottoms of the feet for abuse.
Also check the hands, the palm for abuse. Also the top of the head.
Crimes (last page of chapter p.368) referred to as Sexual Assault are improperly named; they are more of a power crime.
May start out as sex; becomes a power thing. Not stranger rapes; friends and family.
Shaking can make the eyes bruise.
Yellowed bruising, age
Child abuse can be applied to elder abuse.
No cuts around the eyes; more than likely shaken.
Some rashes look like abuse.
Bruising will collect in the fat.
shaken baby, blood collects and ruptures at the edge of the brain and skull. Children die of pneuomonia. Same thing occurs on old people.
skull bruising inside the skull.
Stems of the eyes will show brusing.
